A fairytale like place for relaxation, situated at a stone’s throw from Mamaia resort, on the Romanian seaside. We are talking about Ovid’s Island, a touristic attraction unique in Romania. This holyday destination is located on Siutghiol Lake, only five kilometres away from the shore of Mamaia resort and half a kilometre away from the city of Ovid, being the only objective in Romania located on a natural island.
Ovid’s Island from Constanţa County was created by nature thousands of years ago. In the course of time, people transformed this monument of nature into an attraction point for the travellers seeking for a place to relax at least a few hours. The legends say that the Roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso was exiled here by the emperor Augustus in the year 8 after Christ. The poet is supposed to have been written here his works “Tristia” (Sorrows) and “Epistulae ex Ponto” (Letters from the Black Sea), but the specialists did not find any proof of the presence of Publius Ovidius Naso on this natural island.
How can tourists reach Ovid’s Island and what do they find here?
