Banat is defined as a multiethnic region, where the German community has played a vital part in time.In that region, Banat Schwabians left cultural and culinary elements and an oral memory reminding of a particular local specificity.
Although today the German community is extremely low in number, most of them having left to Germany after 1960, the memory they imprinted is part of Banat’s cultural identity. For those wishing to have a taste of the old atmosphere of a Banat village, Altringen House makes available some of the early Schwabian specificity.
The village that give the B&B’s name is located 46 kilometers away of Timisoara, far from the hassle of the city. In 1770, German population colonized that location and Altringen village was born like that; its name comes from that of Banat governor.
Today, Altringen House provides to tourists quiet rooms, traditional Schwabian food and the atmosphere of an interesting past. From there, tourists can take Valea Muresului and go to Maria Radna basilica and Soimos citadel. Those preferring to take bicycle trips can visit Buzad village known for its thick forests. Those wanting to enjoy several days of rest can revel in peace, quiet, time, and strolls at Altringen House.
Rediscovery of some recipes makes the dishes of Altringen House quite special. Local households provide the ingredients, and the teas and fruits come from the B&B’s own orchard and garden.
Born out of the desire to show others the joys of living in the countryside and the Schwabian furniture, the terrace and the garden are genuine challenges for the tourists wanting to find a peaceful place in the plains.
