The Marmorosch Hotel stands as a unique luxury destination in Bucharest, Romania, inaugurated in August 2021. However, the history of the hotel traces its roots back to the nineteenth century when the building served as the headquarters for the Marmorosch Blank Bank, the most influential bank in Romania at that time.
Founded by renowned bankers Adolf Marmorosch and Leon Blank, true pioneers of the Romanian financial system, the bank financed numerous significant projects such as the construction of railways, bridges, and factories, contributing to the modernization and development of Romania.
Furthermore, the bank played a crucial role in the political and cultural life of the country, supporting the independence movement, the unification of provinces, and the promotion of Romanian art and literature.
Designed by the illustrious architect Nicolae Cerchez, the bank's building seamlessly blended Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles, emerging as an architectural marvel symbolizing the bank's prosperity. Adorned with a grand façade, a sweeping staircase, a marble hall, a stained-glass dome, and a vaulted basement, the structure showcased sculptures, paintings, and mosaics by renowned Romanian artists such as Ion Jalea, Nicolae Vermont, and Costin Petrescu.
The bank's golden era persisted until the upheaval of the Second World War, when it fell prey to nationalization by the communist regime, leading to asset seizures. The building's purpose evolved over time, serving as a museum, library, and school, until abandonment left it in a state of decay.
In 2018, the Lithuanian group Apex Alliance Hotel Management seized the opportunity, embarking on a transformative journey to resurrect the edifice into a 5-star boutique hotel. Aligned with the Autograph Collection, a Marriott International brand, the project marked a 42-million-euro investment and three years of meticulous restoration work to revive its original splendor while incorporating contemporary amenities.
Opened in August 2021, Hotel Marmorosch beckons with 217 rooms and suites, a restaurant, a bar, a spa, a fitness center, an indoor pool, and four meeting and ballrooms. The hotel aspires to rekindle the Belle Époque spirit, paying homage to the unique legacy and craftsmanship of the Marmorosch Blank Bank.
Nestled in the heart of Bucharest's Old Town, the hotel invites travelers to immerse themselves in history, with landmarks like the National Museum of Art, the Romanian Athenaeum, and the Old Town just a stone's throw away. Hotel Marmorosch is the quintessential choice for those seeking to relive the grandeur of the past in a contemporary and luxurious setting.
