The city of Brașov is a picturesque town, visited by countless tourists annually, being the second touristic city of the country after Sibiu. Surrounded by hills and mountains, Brașov offers impressive landscapes but also seasonal entertainment, as it is in the vicinity of some of the most important ski resorts in Romania. The rich history of the region offers special edifices, from villages that seem forgotten in time, to castles and centuries old fortresses.
From an economic point of view, Braşov is pretty well situated as it is one of the countryțs biggest city and, implicitly, an important business hub. However, Brașov has not yet enjoyed a functional airport, probably due to its proximity to Bucharest (about 100 km), the vast majority of those flying in to Brașov, landing at Bucharest’s Otopeni Airport.
However, the wait seems to have come to an end with the decision of the Brașov County Council to invest in a modern and functional airport. This happened in August 2018 when the contruction order for the airport was issued. The track has already been cast ever since 2014, when the airport received its first investment, but future works were then ceased due to lack of funding. Now, the money is in the bag, so the control tower, the terminal and all other adjacent elements will be completed by 2020.
The latest airport study shows that in the first year of operation Braşov Airport could register around 114,000 passengers, and in 10 year it would exceed the one million passengers per year mark.
