Coliboaia, from a common cave from Romania has become, a few years ago, one of the most interesting places on Earth. This comes after several Romanian cavers have done a fabulous discover in this cave, located in Bihor county.
What was found in the Coliboaia cave? Several cave paintings, which, according to experts, are related to the man’s first manifestation, along with those found in the Chauvet cave, in France.
The paintings, also called the black paintings, were discovered in 2009. In the Coliboaia cave were found a total of 14 paintings representing animals such as bison, horse, feline, bear heads or hairy rhinos, and some engravings, everything realized with the carbon.
The cave paintings are the clear evidence that on these lands have lived a prehistoric people.
"It's a unique discovery in the Central and Eastern Europe, but also in the world. The paintings discovered here are very old, dating back to 32,000 - 36,000 years ago.The Coliboaia Cave is placed, thanks to these discoveries, among the Western Palaeolithic cultures of Europe", according to Viorel Lascu, president of the Romanian Federation of Speleology, from Historia magazine.
Coliboaia Cave has an inestimable value
Coliboaia cave is located in the National Park Apuseni, in the Sighiştelului valley, and is considered one of the most important caves in Romania, but also worldwide.
The cave has a length of about 750 meters and is crossed by an underground river, which is why this cave is not easily accessible. To reach the room that houses the cave paintings the tourist has to make an underwater journey.
Coliboaia Cave is protected and is not open to the public. However, tourists arriving in the National Park of Apuseni can visit other fascinating caves, as Măgura or Drăcoaia. Photo: Financiarul
